The course exposes the learners to the basic laws and principles related to contracts, agencies, partnerships, and companies in an organization. It will teach them the methodology of how to apply law in business situations.

Course objective

To equip students with the skills and knowledge of laws governing business and commerce in Uganda.

At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge of principles of law regarding basic contracts, agencies and partnerships and companies to business organizations.
  • Interpret business contracts
  • Explain terminologies used in business law.

The course contents include an overview of key concepts and terms in rural sociology and rural development, social and cultural systems, social groups in the rural setting, Understanding youth and their unique characteristics, social structure and culture, the relationship of the norms and reference groups in planned change, social change, socialization, social control and job performance in communities and rural development.

Course Objectives

  • To explain the concept of rural sociology and rural development  
  • To describe social systems and social change; socialization and individual behavior.
  • To allow the student to exchange ideas about rural life with their peers in a relatively structured setting, and to help them develop an ability to think and write critically about issues and topics affecting rural development.
  • To explain individual and group behavior, cultural values, beliefs, and their influence on work performance.

This course presents various aspects of post-harvest technology of horticultural commodities including post-harvest handling systems for specific commodities. It covers both cereals grains, pulses, and perishable products as well as their losses and control measures.

To introduce the learners to post-harvest concepts, postharvest losses, etc.

  • Enumerate the various food losses and their causes at various points along the food chain during and after harvest

The course introduces the students to the aspect of working with the communities outside the campus to learn the farming practices, collect the data, and interpret, and analyze the data collected for the purpose of report writing.

  • To explain the importance of industrial attachment in agricultural training.
  • Explain routine farming practices, agricultural processing, and related activities.
  • To explain the techniques of handling the community.
