Diploma in Education (Primary program)

It is necessary to update the knowledge and skills of grade III teachers in order to improve primary school teaching and learning. Recent developments in Uganda's Education system have put a strain on both the quality and quantity of Education available. Most Teacher Education Programs, it is noted, were designed and delivered without adequate attention to the prevailing conditions in the majority of the country's dynamic classrooms. Current assumptions that shape Primary Teacher Education in the country must be critically examined.This necessitates an examination of pedagogical practices in primary school classrooms, particularly in disadvantaged areas. Simultaneously, the emphasis on quality improvement of Educational standards must begin at the grass roots, i.e,Primary school level. The importance of quantity of Education is emphasized through Universal Education at both the primary and secondary school levels, with the goal of increasing the number of children attending school.This Education can only produce good results if we have enough teachers who have been rigorously trained in pre-service and in-service programs. The DEP program was created to address the need for more well-trained teachers who are knowledgeable about both subject matter and pedagogical content.
